Wow a whole 364 days since the last post!!!

got excited about posting again, my friend Parker has just setup his own blog setup. http://hpshelton.tumblr.com/page/1

its really cool, its got a place for documents, as well as a great way to store photos. I suppose a couple of these features could be done on facebook, however, the main difference here is that you don't have your photos compressed and even worse have your photos on somebody else's server!

I think its really cool, definetly going to follow it via RSS :)

Hi Parker if you're reading this :)

Baja suspension team

Hey all,

Here is a cool video I captured while working in our shop. It shows our two suspension captains, Avik De and Rob Calderon, talking about their progress on the car so far.

Adam Baumgartner's Energy plan for US transportation

Aloha,

I have just 1 more exam and then I am done for this semester.

But before I go do that I just wanted to record my energy plan for transportation and say that its my plan before anyone tries to steal it.

Plan

1.

Make cars that are used for transportation be hydrogen fuel cell cars.
Create this hydrogen using Salt water Electolysis plants powered by renewable resources, solar, wind, tidal.

2. Power all vehicles that cannot run on hydrogen with Compressed natural gas from Texas. This will also be transported to various distribution centers, gas stations and truck stops.

The end.

Man, this college stuff is hard.

I am going to take a break from the baja stuff in an effort to get back focused on my school work. I have those 2 10 page papers due one for ANE and the other for M+M. "sigh" no rest for the weary. But the good news is that we got all the work done for baja that needed to be finished. the polaris order was finished, the letter to hemker was written and best of all Austin used solidworks. Oh and also clyde found a solution to the chair issue on the baja car. And that's it for now. Now I just need to wait and get confirmation from CVTech that they recieved my fax for the CVT, wait for Polaris to confirm that they can send me the order and have the SAC send them the money. Other stuff like tube ordering can happen later. I remember last year that tubing sat around along time before we did any work on it. Also the turn around time of Dillsburg Aerospace is like 1 or 2 days so the time it takes to get here will be very short. We purdy much have the parts in order and design directions setup.

If you were smart Adam you would wait untill after your last final ton get back working on the car. Everything is in place, when you get back you will have 3.5 months to finish design, build and test. Not a problem, when you have no class to worry about for a month, lol.

Take a break from baja, it will be there when you get back.

So many things to do.

Man, I have so many projects going on in my mind that I though I would take some time to prioritize the importance of each project.

1. Schoolwork/homework- This has to be first if I don't want to fail :)
2. Basketball- need to attempt to get at least 8hours of sleep before practice or game
3. Baja- Team Captain
4. Acoustic Research- Work on getting the noise measurements from the Glass Pavilion.
5. Velocipide bike project- Not due until April, and not captain, plenty of time.
6. Mechanical Capacitor research- Could happen
7. HUES advising-

I will use this table to refer to what I need to do

Obama wins National Election

I am so happy!!!!!!! Senator Obama was elected president of the United States. I feel that it shows that people like me are looking past a person's race or color and made a choice to vote for Obama because he had superb skills in leading the most successful campaign in the history of politics and because of the calm, cool and collected demenor that I feel gives a positive image to the American presidency.

In short I am absolutly totally thrilled.

There were some street celebrations taking place on St Paul and 33rd. I was dancing along with them. It was great. The cops eventually tried to shut it down. I left after the cops got on the bull horn, but suprise suprise, others did not and a few people got arrested. That will make your mood change. It seems though that these impromptu celebrations were happening all over America so it is cool to be a part of something that will be written about in history books later.

What a historic election. I am interested in seeing the international response to a Black president and I hope that it accelerates race relations world wide and forces nations to take a look at how they compare to the U.S. who now has an African American President.

Dunk photo

Hey check out the high resolution version.

Crash !!!!!

Well it finally happened. I crashed on my bike here at hopkins. Fortunately I was not hurt at all except for some small scrapes on my Right knee, elbow and hip. These are very minor considering how it looked. The main losers of this fall are my Lucky brand pants, now ripped and my front light, hope it still works. But I am doing fine which is most important, the bike is also ok.

Everyone is very helpful when you crash, I had a woman stop her car and tell me that my batteries had fallen out and pointed to each one and waited for me to confirm that I saw it.

Afterwards, I got a pizza and hung out at Miriams Halloween party.

Basketball, Baja and Computers

Man,

I gave out a project for everyone to work on for baja. Come up with a cool idea that they liked in another teams car. Had some really cool designs of other teams, It seemed like it gave them a chance to see what other teams do. I think also that the movie idea in the beginning of meetings is genius, it really breaks the ice well. Also funding for the compy just got approved, they want us to have a guest link I am sure we can do that, I guess it will be like a read only version of the os. I mean sure you can use solid works and ie but not save anything on the computer anywhere. true that.

Anyways, just going to work on some RSA and get ready for tomorrow in class, I would like to get fluids started on early because I cannot work on it this saturday. So much work so little time.

Large group organization

Last Season for baja we had about 7 total members for the baja team. This year we have 24 !!!! It is going to be quite a challenge handeling all of the the people on the team, and keeping them focused on making the car.

Also of note Avik and Patrick both sponsored $500 each. This is an extra grand in our favor. Also I think that we will have all of our sponsors back this year so that should be alright in terms of funds. Also I got the SAC to sponsor 600 dollars of our registration costs. I also want them to cover the costs of our new computer $3000. Hope that works out.

Will post more tomorrow.

Adam

GM visit

On Friday Aug 1 the Hopkins Baja team went to visit the Allison Transmission Plant in White Marsh, MD. We were trying to get sponsorship for the team. A number of workers including plant manager Tom Gallager got a chance to drive the 2008 car. We had a great time and hopefully we can get some sponsorship for next year.

Montreal here we come

Hey Hopkins Baja Fans,

Well the team met up today to put the final touches on getting the car ready for the 2008 Baja Montreal competition. We checked over the car making sure that we would be ready for tech inspection, and also organized all the spare parts and tools that the team needs to keep the car running through the 4 grueling days of competition. We head off this Tuesday morning. I (Adam) and Avik will be driving up to Montreal in a 16' box van from Penske. We got a great discount __GO PENSKE !!! They really came through great with the box van. Google says 10 hours but it will be more like 11 or 12 with all the stops for driver changes and gas, but no longer than the Tennessee event we went to earlier in the year.
Overall car is much faster for this event. We will try to keep it going as fast as possible and earning points.

Later guys,
Adam

Current Status of the Car

Hey everybody,

This is the Hopkins Motorsports blog. This is a really easy way to see what we are doing for the team.

Currently we are getting the car in order to go to the montreal competition this June 11-14. It should be pretty cool. We just recently got the steering rack fixed and suspension back on. These damages occured last competition when we were in Tennessee. More on that later, for now I am just checking out my new blogger site and seeing how it works
